A 32-year-old illegal immigrant has been arrested for sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl in Shelby, Michigan.
Joel Quintana-Dominguez, an illegal immigrant who has been deported from the United States before, was arrested by the Shelby Township Police on July 19 in a Macomb County trailer park while preparing to escape. The Shelby Township Police immediately took him into custody 72 hours after they were notified about his location. “It appeared that he was packed and his vehicle was in a manner that he was going to be leaving,” said Shelby Police Sergeant Kevin Bailey.
Quintana-Dominguez now faces three counts of sexual assault involving a girl under the age of 13. His bond has been set at $500,000.
However, as the investigation progressed, another victim came forward to the police with additional allegations of sexual abuse against Quintana-Dominguez.
“Because of our release that we put out, another victim came in last night and described horrific acts that have occurred. And we’re investigating those now. And the person also informed us that there’s multiple other victims that we’re gonna be searching for,” said Shelby Township Police Chief Robert Shelide.
Authorities are now trying to uncover the full extent of the alleged crimes.
Former Michigan Rep. Mike Rogers, who is gunning to be the Republican Party’s nominee for the Senate elections in the state, could not help but describe the crime as “another horrific and entirely preventable tragedy” in a post on X.
“Another horrific and entirely preventable tragedy. Every single state in the union is a border state thanks to Border Czar [Vice President] Kamala Harris. We must secure the border and prevent more tragedies like this in our communities,” he posted on July 31.
In an interview with the New York Post, Rogers doubled down on his comment, stressing the impact on law-abiding families.
“The victims of these crimes are families who are doing all the right things. And we’re letting these illegals have the run of the show. These people are getting up every day, putting their kids on the bus, trying to earn a living,” Rogers said. “They’ve been exposed to all of this by what I argue is an open and dangerous border, and it’s gonna get more dangerous.”
Rogers, a former agent with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, underscored the challenges in tracking illegal immigrants within the United States.
“You don’t know how many unsolved sexual assaults there are where these guys are just roaming around the country and you can’t really find them. They’re not tethered to anything that’s really traceable… If you want to hide in the country, you can hide in the country.”
